Take a trip back in time beginning with the earliest inhabitants, the Coast Miwok, Angel Island was a seasonal hunting and gathering location for the local native tribes, a safe refuge and supply stop for Spanish explorers like Juan Manuel de Ayala, one of the first to map the San Francisco Bay. From 1910 to 1940, the U.S. Immigration Station processed hundreds of thousands of immigrants, the majority from China. During World War II, Japanese and German POWs, were detained at the Station before being sent to facilities farther inland. We will have the opportunity to explore the museum, take a one hour tram ride around the island, featuring spectacular views the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco and Alcatraz. We fly into Las Vegas, where we are met by private Motor coach and begin to explore the city that never sleeps! Our first adventure will be to The Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. The canyon’s picture-perfect natural scenery is truly breathtaking; this 13-mile scenic drive takes you down to the towering Wilson Cliffs, which is part of the 65 million-year-old Keystone Thrust. Located at the beginning of the loop is the visitor center, which includes numerous exhibits, a desert tortoise habitat and a gift shop. Beautiful desert wildflowers, ancient Native American pictographs and vibrant vegetation will captivate you as well. Next, we arrive back at the Strip for our two night stay at the Treasure Island Hotel. Enjoy the spacious guest rooms, featuring floor-to-ceiling windows, allowing spectacular views of the Strip, pillow-top beds, flat-screen LCD TVs, small refrigerators, private safes and large soaking bathtubs. Topping it all off, the resort is conveniently located, offering a tram to the neighboring Mirage and a pedestrian bridge across Spring Mountain to the Fashion Show mall, a three-story, 48,000-square-foot retail center that offers the best shopping in Vegas. Time will be allowed to rest and freshen up before we end our evening with a dinner show at the visually stunning "Mystère" by Cirque du Soleil. This show is known as a deep, abstract interpretation of the origins of life and the universe and the most "pure" Cirque du Soleil experience you can get in Vegas. You will be wowed by the beauty it evokes and the acrobatic talent it showcases. The show fuses elements of performance art, music and culture from around the world, using characters that seem both familiar and exotic all at once. Performers in colorful outfits channel birds, lizards and other colorful animals with dance and acrobatic maneuvers, just as the two baby characters bring both laughs and gasps to the audience with their innocent and often near-perilous hijinks. Following our dinner show, remainder of the evening will be yours to enjoy. Day Two: Breakfast will be hosted in the morning at the hotel before traveling to Hoover Dam for a guided tour. Explore the visitor's center and see educational displays plus enjoy a 10-minute film about the dam's construction. From here, take a 70 second elevator ride 530 feet down into the heart of the dam. Deep in the dam, you'll check out one of four 30-foot diameter pipes that transport 90,000 gallons of water per second to the dam's hydroelectric generators. Next, take a short elevator ride up to a balcony overlooking the Nevada side power plant. Admire the beautiful terrazzo floors installed in the 1930s and the massive generators. You will also get to explore inspection tunnels in the middle of the dam and peer through air vents that provide breathtaking views of the river and mountains below. Return to your hotel in the early afternoon to explore on your own, rest and freshen up before your hosted dinner and Vegas by Night Tour. See the bright lights of Las Vegas during this three-hour tour of the Strip and downtown. We will drive past all of the Strip’s glowing neon signs, the famous Las Vegas wedding chapels, landmarks like the MGM Grand Lion and New York – New York’s Statue of Liberty and much more. Throughout the tour, our guide will get off the bus with you at each stop and take you to sights like the Fremont Street Experience downtown where you’ll see the famous light show and neon signs like the Vegas Vic cow boy. You’ll also get to walk to the Lake of Dreams at Wynn, the Mirage Volcano, the Bellagio Fountains, the Paris Las Vegas Arc de Triomphe and Eiffel Tower and the famous Welcome to Las Vegas sign. (B, D,) Day Three: Following our hosted breakfast, we check out of our hotel and visit the world renowned Mob Museum. With the city's reputation as a world-class destination, it's hard to believe that less than 30 years ago hotels in Vegas were still run by the mob. The scenes depicted in the Martin Scorsese film "Casino," weren't just good film writing. That was Vegas. Visitors can learn all about the city's sordid past at the Mob Museum located in the heart of downtown. The $42-million museum features interactive exhibits and artifacts that teach visitors all about the most notorious gangsters in Vegas, the history of the mafia and how organized crime impacted the rest of America and the world. Following our tour, we enjoy a hosted lunch before saying good-bye to the warm weather of Las Vegas.
