This museum tour offers an opportunity to visit three museums that depict the historic evolution of our beautiful neighbor, Lake Tahoe. Our OLLI Tour of Tahoe City will begin at the Gatekeepers Museum near Fanny Bridge. It is a reconstruction of the Watermaster's cabin built by Robert Watson and showcases Tahoe history, from the Washoe people to the logging, mining and tourism transformation at Lake Tahoe. The Marian Steinbach Indian Basket Museum is a world class collection of baskets from tribes throughout western North America, and is housed within the Gatekeepers Museum. We will walk to Watson's Cabin Living Museum, about one half mile distance. This cabin was built in 1908 and the North Lake Tahoe Historical Society offers a docent led tour of the 2 room cabin and garden. The Boatworks Mall houses the Museum of Sierra Ski History and 1960 Winter Olympics, as well as Jake's on the Lake, where we will eat lunch. Mark McLaughlin, Lake Tahoe resident, author of six books, including "Sierra Stories - True Tales of Tahoe, Vol 1&2”, will be with us from the Gatekeepers Museum to Jake's on the Lake for lunch, offering narrative along the way. Often a present a OLLI, Mark's lecture topics have included: "Lake Tahoe: Stories, Facts and Fun”. By the end of this tour we should all be well informed of some of the history of Lake Tahoe.
