Fall into Elko & Ely Tour, Sept. 25 – 27, 2015
Discover all that Northern Nevada has to offer! Visit an animal wildlife refuge, explore the new California Trail Interpretive Center, participate in a balloon festival, experience a historic train ride – and much more on our Fall into Elko excursion!
We arrive at the Safe Haven Rescue Zoo, home to tigers, lions, cougars and bob cats that have been recused and given a new life. Then we’re off to Elko, where we’ll visit the California Trail Interpretive Center. This informative museum depicts the story of the pioneers who endured the 2,000 mile trek to California. Lunch will be served at the Star Hotel, a Basque family-style restaurant and lounge, serving European style food in an old world atmosphere. Following lunch we check into the Red Lion Hotel and Casino, with time to rest and freshen up before traveling a short distance to the Ruby Mountain Balloon Festival. We’ll arrive in time for the annual balloon glow and, perhaps, a tethered balloon ride before returning to the hotel for a hosted dinner. (L, D)
We’ll enjoy breakfast before traveling to Lamoille Canyon to experience a beautiful palette of fall colors. Then we’re off to Ely, once a thriving boomtown, built in 1906 and home to the historic Northern Nevada Railway Museum. We check into our hotel with time to rest and freshen up before our hosted dinner. (B, D)
Following breakfast, we’ll ride back in time on a historic train at the Northern Nevada Railway Museum. Sit back and enjoy the mountain scenery during this delightful 90-minute ride, accompanied by a historical narration. We’ll enjoy lunch before departing to Reno. (B, L)
