Join us on a three-day fall expedition as we visit Mono County and the surrounding Eastern Sierra to view lovely autumn colors and spectacular natural landscapes.  Features guided tours of the area, including Mammoth Lakes, a hike to Devils Postpile National Monument and a stop at lovely Topaz Lake.

Day One:
Mono County and the surrounding Eastern Sierra offer the best show of glowing golden-orange-crimson fall colors in the western United States. The natural landscape in the Eastern Sierra, where rugged granite canyons are carved by rushing streams and framed by an azure sky, creates a spellbinding contrast of colors during autumn. We depart Reno in the morning and travel south down Highway 395. Our first stop will be Mono Basin Scenic Area Visitor Center, featuring interactive exhibits and an interesting film on one of the oldest lakes in the western hemisphere – Mono Lake – which reflects the Sierra Nevada mountains in its shimmering blue waters.  An immense inland sea, the 70 square-mile lake fills a natural basin, 700 square miles in size.  Following our self-guided tour we enjoy a lovely picnic lunch overlooking the lake before traveling south to Mammoth Lakes.  Upon arrival we check into Mammoth Mountain Inn, our home for the next two nights.  Time will be allowed to rest and freshen up before our hosted dinner.

Day Two:
Breakfast will be hosted this morning at the hotel before we join our local step-on-guide for a delightful tour of the Mammoth Lakes area. We will visit Mammoth Lakes Basin, Old Mammoth gold mining site, June Lake Loop, and Convict Lake and Hot Creek. We return to our hotel to rest and freshen up before our hosted dinner.

Day Three:
Following our hotel check out and hosted breakfast we travel a short distance to downtown Mammoth to browse the many shops and boutiques. For those that enjoy a bit of a hike, we will take a walk to Devils Postpile National Monument. The formation is a rare sight in the geologic world and ranks as one of the world's finest examples of columnar basalt. Its columns tower 60 feet high and display an unusual symmetry. In the afternoon we travel home with a fun stop at Topaz Lake.
